Sydnee Carter – Started songwriting and performing at age 10, self-taught guitarist and vocalist mainly singing in the shower until I finally plucked up enough courage to sing in front of my relatives at about age 15. At age 16 I auditioned for the Xfactor 2014 with the goal of getting a professional audition video that I could use to help my WAAPA application once completing year 12. To my surprise I found myself on the live shows surviving about 5 weeks but gaining great experience and the start of a fan base.
In February 2015 I released my debut EP with 6 songs, obtaining a WAM Song Of the Year Nomination for Life Raft. Later that year I made the Grand final of the Telstra “road to discovery” another fantastic experience and great insight into song writing and music as a business.
In 2016 I completed a Diploma of contemporary music at WAAPA, worked on my second EP (still not released), played as many gigs as possible and was fortunate enough to be selected for Music Matters Singapore. It proved to be another wonderful experience meeting up with the likes of fellow Perth artists Slumberjack, Rag’n’ bone and the Merindas. It also gave the opportunity to perform with a band and more recently that’s what I’m doing now for the larger gigs.
Having been introduced to the Slumberjack guys by Mike Harris from WAM we decided to collaborate on a track and “Afraid Unafraid” was released in April and has been doing pretty good. A few weeks later I was given the opportunity to perform it live on triple “like a version”, another really cool experience.
In May 2017 my last single release ‘ When We Were Young’ won the 2017 WAM song of the year award taking the grand prize and the pop category of which I am very humbled to be the recipient amongst such great nominees.
